A major flood warning has been issued for Deep Creek.
A VicEmergency alert urged residents to stay safe by avoiding the flooded area at about 10am on Thursday morning.
“Be aware of potential hazards caused by flooding and never enter floodwater,” the alert said.
The update said the Maribyrnong River catchment recorded rainfall averaging about 34 millimetres since 9am on Wednesday (October 12), with 15 to 30 millimetres forecast for the catchment today.
“Water levels of the Jacksons Creek, Deep Creek and the Maribyrnong River at various locations are rising in response to the rain,” VicEmergency said.
“The level of the Deep Creek at Darraweit Guim is currently at the Minor Flood Level and rising. If the rain occurs as forecast, it is expected to peak around the major flood level around midday Thursday.
“Major flooding in the Deep Creek and Maribyrnong River catchment is expected to cause extensive inundation in the rural and/or urban areas, disruption to traffic, and may be isolation of some properties.”
