The Regenerating the Ranges Festival happening this month is all about the coming together of the community after the devastation of last year’s June storms.
Organised by the Macedon Ranges Seed Savers with grant funding from the Victorian government, the Woodend event on Sunday, October 16 will acknowledge community resilience and work on healing.
Seed Savers’ Kylie Swain put together the festival, which will focus on helping the community prepare for future disasters and teach the art of regeneration.
“It’s good to get the community together after this kind of event, to put on something positive and talk about what’s happening,” Ms Swain said.
“When I hear another storm I freak out and I think other people are the same.I think it’s healthy to be able to do something as a community.”
Taking place at the Woodend RSL, attendees will be treated to talks from guest speakers, including Craig Castree, as well as market stalls, face painting, music, a show bag and a free sausage sizzle.
“The Woodend Mens Shed is going to be there to teach people how to build nesting boxes… you might have lost a tree but you can put a nesting box back into its place,” Ms Swain said.
“To put some good back into the ecosystem, to turn a negative into a positive thing.
“The CFA are going to be there, showing you how to do your own disaster plan, too.”
The festival starts at 1pm and is free, and volunteers for the event and packaging seeds would be welcomed too.
