Treasurer pops into Gisborne

Victorian treasurer Tim Pallas spent time last week checking out the Gisborne township, chatting with locals about the recent low unemployment figures and visiting recent infrastructure upgrades.

Mr Pallas was shown around by Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas, who took him to see the new roundabout at the Melbourne and Kilmore roads intersection, as well as the intersection upgrade at Saunders Road.

He ducked into 3 Little Pigs cafe for a coffee and a chat with owners and residents, encouraging the community to shop around town.

Recent figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show Victoria’s regional unemployment rate fell to a record low of 2.9 per cent, which is the lowest regional unemployment rate nation-wide.

“Local businesses are thriving in Macedon, I was so proud to show the treasurer around Gisborne, with our new fantastic roundabout and intersection upgrade, as well as having a coffee at a local cafe and a great chat with locals on Aitken Street,” Ms Thomas said.

The state’s overall unemployment rate is the best in the country too, the lowest it’s been in almost 50 years at 3.1 per cent.

Commsec State Of data released last month shows Victoria leads the country in relative employment and retail spending.

“We need to ensure that every Victorian buys and shops local first to support their local businesses,” Mr Pallas said.

“It’s great to see the recent roadwork upgrades to both Station Saunders Road and the new roundabout at the Melbourne Kilmore Road intersection, safety is an absolutely priority and these upgrades mean a safer and more timely commute for locals.”
