The Sunbury Jets will go back to basics as they hope to turnaround the Big V men’s state championship grand final series after a horrendous start on Sunday.

In their most disappointing game of the year, the Jets were blown off the court by Wyndham in a 106-68 trashing at Werribee.

Wyndham dominated every quarter as they piled on the pain for the Jets in game one of the best-of-three series.

Jets coach John White was as left as shocked as anyone by the performance.

“To be honest we didn’t show up,” he said. “We played like a team that had come off a really intense series.

“Wyndham played really well. They knew what they wanted to do and credit to them. Everything we tried didn’t work.

“They didn’t do anything we haven’t seen before. They play high tempo basketball, executing the plan they came with.”

Gerald Blackshear was the only player who looked like scoring, with 23 points, more than a third of his team’s total.

Ish Sanders, one of highest scorers in the league, had a tough day with just five points as he shot two of 13 from the field.

White said Sanders doesn’t have days like that very often.

“He had a tough day and a lot of attention place on him by Wyndham,” he said. “Our ability to score from other guys in the offence was disappointing.”

White said after the game the guys knew how poor they had played and weren’t happy with that performance.

He said there were plenty of things to work on this week. He said their focus would all be about them.

“We’re going to focus on us,” he said “We want to focus our efforts on things we can control and get back to what we do best.

“We don’t dwell on today. Come Saturday and Sunday we need to really execute the things that we do well.”

Game two and if needed, game three, will both be at Boardman Stadium in Sunbury.

White said they were hoping to get a big crowd down there to hopefully support them bring home a championship.

“We want them to be the sixth man on the court,” he said.

“Hopefully it’s a huge crowd that will get behind us from the under-12s to the seniors. They’ve been great all year and we want a bit of noise and hostility for Wyndham as they make their way across the Ring Road.”
