The Sunbury Kangaroos have announced the reappointment of Ron Sikora as their women’s coach for next season.
The club took to social media on Sunday to announce the news that Sikora would be back for the 2023 and 2024 Essendon District Football League seasons.
“The Sunbury Kangaroos Football Netball Club is thrilled to announce Ron Sikora has recommitted as women’s coach for a further two seasons,” the post said.
“Ron joined the club last year and has seen our women’s program go from nearly needing to fold to having two women’s sides this season.
“Ron’s passion for women’s footy is second to none as is the want to further grow the female program at the club.”
The club said that a number of player re-signings would be announced in the coming weeks as well.
The Kangaroos division 1 side had a bye on Saturday in the final round of the season. They finished the season in fifth.
The division 2 women’s side finished their season with an 11.14 (80)-0.1 (1) loss to minor premiers Tullamarine.
Olivia Lacy, Kirra Ayling, Alison Wigney were named the Kangaroos best.
The Sunbury Lions women’s side which plays in division 1 forfeited their final game of the season against Greenvale.
Meanwhile, in the men’s division 1 competition the Kangaroos fell just short against West Coburg for a second time this season.
The bottom placed Kangaroos took it up to West Coburg, with scores level in the last quarter.
The Burgers kicked the final goal of the game against the win, to get the 7.13 (55)-7.6 (48) win.
Nathan Carroll kicked four goals for the Kangaroos.
Mitchell Kook continued his good form and was named in the best alongside Brandon Watts and Carroll.
Rupertswood’s finals hopes took a hit with a loss to Westmeadows.
The two sides entered the game equal on points, it was the Tigers who led all day in the 13.6 (84)-7.13 (55) win.
Brock Landt kicked three goals to be the Sharks best.
The Tigers, who sit in fourth, are now a game clear of the Sharks in the race for finals. Roxburgh Park and Hillside which were in the finals race are a further game and percentage behind, meaning their hopes are over.
Rupertswood faces Moonee Valley (eighth) and West Coburg (third) in the final two games of the regular season, while the Tigers face Craigieburn (ninth) and Tullamarine (second).
