Kyneton is full of confidence after its biggest win in a number of years in the Bendigo Football League.
After some solid performances in the opening rounds, the Tigers were able to put it all together against Golden Square to come away with a thrilling win in round six.
For Tigers president Hayden Evans the result has had a massive impact on top of what they were already doing.
“It was our best win in three or four years,” he said. “It was great.
“It is tremendous for the younger guys who have never experienced that sort of win before.
“The win has given the whole town a boost.
“The recruits can’t believe the crowds that we are getting. We keep getting more and more at each home game.”
Evans said the win came on the back of learning lessons from earlier in the season when they lost a close one to South Bendigo.
They were keen to ensure that it didn’t happen again with the Tigers turning a two-point quarter deficit to a seven point win.
Evans said the key in recent weeks was the group was sticking to the game plan set out by coach Paul Chapman.
“They’re listening to Paul and sticking to the instructions,” he said. “They’re learning how to win close matches.”
The win moved the Tigers to 3-3 as they had the weekend off having played in the first weekend of the split round.
Evans said they’re disappointed not to be 4-2, but knew they had a good platform to work from.
They will receive a boost with five or six players set to return after the break. They include last season’s best and fairest winner Ned O’Sullivan and playing assistant coach Guy Dickson.
This week the Tigers face Eaglehawk.
Evans said the focus for the next few weeks was simple.
“It’s very much about playing as a team and sticking to the game plan.”
Evans said off field everything was flying with membership and sponsorship at a record high.
