High definition films coming for Macedon Ranges cinephiles

The magic of the movies is set to become even more enthralling for members of the Macedon Ranges Film Society (MRFS), with a grant to buy new gear.

Through Macedon Ranges council’s small project grants program, the society has been awarded $1500 to buy a new Blu-Ray projector, with support from the Bendigo Bank too.

MRFS president Christine Caley said the not-for-profit organisation realised a couple of years ago it needed the upgrade and was delighted to have been successful in the council grant.

“We couldn’t have done it, otherwise,” Ms Caley said.

“We certainly couldn’t have done it this year … but the fact that we’ve got the grant means that this year, in fact within a couple of months, we’ll be up and running with our new equipment.”

A society membership is worth its weight in gold: for $70 you get a movie a month, a glass of wine, supper and an opportunity to discuss the films in depth after a screening.

“In July, we have mulled wine. We have almost a full membership in July that turns up, I think the mulled wine’s got something to do with that,” Ms Caley said.

The new screening gear will allow the organisation’s annual August short film festival to be viewed in high definition, too.

“Grateful, is the first word that comes to mind,” Ms Caley said.
