Riddell and Gisborne get Good Friday wins

Riddell continued its unbeaten run in the Riddell District Football League winning a Good Friday thriller against Woodend-Hesket.

Taking to the field for Good Friday for the first time, it was the Bombers who jumped out of the blocks early with four goals to none in the first quarter.

After closing the gap in the second quarter the margin stayed about the two goal mark throughout the third quarter.

The Hawks came at the Bombers late, but the Bombers were able to hold on, winning 8.8 (56)-8.6 (54).

Callum Williamson kicked three goals for the winners, while Josh Grabham was named best on ground.

Hawks playing-coach Josh Pound kicked three goals, as he continued his good year. Alastair Rae was named their best.

In the A-grade netball, the Hawks remain undefeated. The Hawks winning, 55-36, with Laura Carland best on court.

The win though was soured with a serious injury to goaler Abby Gilmore. Gilmore, who joined the club this year, ruptured her achilles in the third quarter and will have surgery.

In the Bendigo Football Netball League, Gisborne got the wins in the senior football and A-grade netball on Good Friday against local rival Kyneton.

In the football, it was Kyneton that started the better of the two teams and would lead throughout the first half.

The Bulldogs hit the front in the third quarter and led by one point at the last break. The final quarter would be all the Bulldogs as they won, 10.12 (72)-6.10 (46).

Jack Scanlon kicked three goals in the win, with Ethan Foreman and Matthew Panuccio kicking two goals each.

Jack Reaper was named best on ground.

For the Tigers, Lachlan Zimmer was the only multiple goal kicker with two goals.

Noah Walsh and Tanner Nally were named their best.

In the A-grade netball, the Bulldogs opened their account beating the Tigers, 65-31.

In the Essendon District Football League, the Sunbury Kangaroos first foray into Good Friday football, was a tough one against Hillside.

The Sharks, who have traditionally played Taylors Lakes on Good Friday, jumped out of the blocks on Friday.

They led by 27 points at quarter time before increasing that margin to 61 at the main break.

While the Kangaroos won the second half, it was too little, too late, with the Sharks winning 17.20 (122)-9.13 (67).

Tie Cuffe was the best for the Kangaroos.
