A queer hangout event taking place in Kyneton is about helping Macedon Ranges LGBTQIA+ residents feel connected and welcome.
On Wednesday, March 30 at 6pm, the event at Animus Distillery is set to be a gorgeous time, and will even feature a performance by singer Cassidy La Creme.
Director of Kyneton Community House, Claire Rawlinson, said these events were vital because people were feeling isolated, especially through the pandemic.
“There’s been a lot more backlash on marginalised community members who identify differently than other people, and it’s important to get peer-to-peer connection happening with certain people in our community,” Ms Rawlinson said.
She said the organisation wanted to foster “strong, long lasting connections”, helping to form relationships that go far beyond the hangouts.
“It’s all about food, friendship, entertainment and a bit of fun,” Ms Rawlinson said.
The event is aimed at giving people a chance to finally meet in person, because after so many lockdowns, it’s more pressing than ever that people find each other.
“We’re very supportive of the LGBT+ communities in Kyneton and surrounds, we try to make them feel as welcome as we can at our house,” she said.
“We often have events specifically for that cohort of people – we like to fly the rainbow flag however and wherever we can.”
