Hume mayor Carly Moore has written a holiday message for the residents of her municipality.
2021 has been a challenging year for all of us in Hume.
Our community endured an unequal burden of loss and suffering throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
But because of our residents and the incredible work of many local organisations, Hume has transformed from being one of the most impacted municipalities in Victoria, to one of the most vaccinated against the virus.
Despite these challenges, Council has continued to work hard to ensure our community can return to doing the things we love with the opening of important community and sporting facilities including the Kalkallo Community Centre, the Greenvale Equestrian Centre and Boardman Reserve Pavilion (Sunbury) – delivered in partnership with the Victorian Government.
Our path to recovery is bright. To help boost our local economy and get people back to work, we’re investing $108.42 million over the next 12 months to deliver 150 shovel-ready projects.
Most significantly, a record $443 million will be invested over the next four years for more than 500 projects.
This includes the delivery of more community facilities, preschools, sporting reserves and playgrounds, and to make it easier to get around, we’ll be upgrading roads, footpaths, walking and cycling paths and bridges.
We are a strong and resilient community and as we begin to chart our path to recovery where we learn to live with COVID, the new normal for Hume needs to be based on what it has always been – on community, on family and on hard work.
Christmas is a wonderful time of year to reflect on this and to reconnect and remember what is important.
