Macedon Ranges council to discuss aged care facility

Macedon Ranges council will meet tomorrow morning to hear a notice of rescission relating to council’s recent approval of an aged care facility on Melbourne-Lancefield Road.

On September 22, council endorsed the proposed development of a 120 bed aged care facility at the site outside the Romsey town boundary.

Five of the eight councillors present endorsed the application, which went against the officer’s recommendations.

According to the officer’s report, the development was deemed contrary to township structure guidelines.

The report also outlined that the site was inappropriate due to its remoteness from services.

But Cr Geoff Neil said the development would plug a necessary shortage of aged care facilities in the east of the shire, as well as providing employment opportunities.

A motion to rescind council’s approval of the application will be moved by Cr Anne Moore.

The meeting will be held tomorrow morning at 9am.
