Goonawarra Primary School has received a $10 million boost from this year’s state budget.
School principal Dolores Giordimaina said the funding was “the best news ever” and would help them modernise their facilities.
“We are so excited about being able to design new learning spaces to meet our needs for the future,” she said.
“That means for all kids, including those with specific sensory requirements.
“The aim is to make spaces that will allow us to have a more collaborative approach.”
The government will spend $215,000 of the $10 million in 2021-22, with the project expected to be completed in the second half of 2024.
The investment is one of 52 school upgrade projects announced in the budget.
Sunbury MP Josh Bull said he was proud to see an investment in local education.
“We’re making sure that our schools have the best facilities, our classrooms have the best teachers and that every child is given every chance to succeed,” Mr Bull said.
Goonawarra Primary School currently has 415 students at its campus in Sunbury, but Ms Giordimaina said she expects enrolments to keep growing.
“This year we are expecting a big number of enrolments and with so many people moving to Sunbury,” she said.
“Moving forward, we want to integrate our learning plan and help us feel like we’re not squashed.
“$10 million can give us that flexibility.”
