Welcome to your house

A new-look community space at the Goonawarra Neighbourhood House has been unveiled.

The redevelopment of the house includes improved and expanded classrooms to allow in-person classes to resume, and a new kitchen.

The project received $228,000 from the 2019-20 round of the state government’s Growing Suburbs Fund. Hume council also contributed $92,000 towards the project and the Department of Health and Human Services contributed $30,000.

For more than 30 years, the Goonawarra Neighbourhood House has delivered a range of classes, support and childcare opportunities for the community.

Sunbury MP Josh Bull said fast growing communities such as Sunbury deserved the very best facilities.

“When you walk into the house, it’s light and it’s bright and it looks absolutely outstanding,” he said.

“We know that lifelong benefits from from a place like this – a community hub, a safe place where people can come and congregate and learn new skills.

“We know that during the pandemic, our local neighbourhood houses played such an important role for our community and they way that the neighbourhood houses in the Hume community managed to adapt so quickly as the pandemic struck is a credit.

“This is the Goonawarra Neighbourhood House that I know and it’s the Goonawarra Neighbourhood House that I support.”
