Sunbury’s popular SunFest, which attracts up to 35,000 people, has been cancelled for 2021.
The decision to cancel the two-day event, scheduled for the third weekend in March each year, came after planning for this year’s event was unable to begin in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The SunFest volunteer committee usually commence planning for the following year’s event in May.
The festival’s president Shona Davie said in a statement that committee members were extremely disappointed to make the decision, but understood the “devastating” impact COVID-19 restrictions and lockdown had on the community and local businesses.
“After such a tough 2020, SunFest’s volunteer committee is devastated that we are unable to hold a SunFest in 2021,” the statement read.
“However, we are determined to make SunFest 2022 – our 44th festival, the best ever.
“We wish to celebrate the strength, resilience and spirit of our community. We welcome any Sunbury community members who wish to join us.”
The SunFest volunteer committee said the 2022 event will feature the very best of SunFest including the grand street parade, Sunbury’s Got Talent, torchlight parade and Battle of the School Choirs.
