Diggers Rest Primary will be upgraded brick by brick.
As part of the 2020-21 state budget, $3.2 million has been allocated to Diggers Rest Primary School to upgrade and modernise the school, including the administration block.
Principal Sheridan Thomas said the money would go a long way to improve learning environments at the school.
“We are a fantastic school with beautiful grounds and modern classrooms, however we are limited by the number of spaces that we are able to use,” she said.
“This money will allow us to grow as our community does and to continue to provide high quality education for all our students.
“Our purpose is to empower our students to excel through a culture of high expectations, purposeful relationships and challenge and support.
“This money will be put towards fixing buildings and developing new learning spaces that our staff and students deserve.”
Sunbury MP Josh Bull said as students returned to the classrooms after a year of remote learning, it was important they had “fantastic and new” learning spaces.
“Families in Diggers Rest have done a phenomenal job in supporting students to learn from home,” he said.
“As kids return to their classrooms, we want to make Diggers Rest Primary School better than before.
“Not only will this make sure our kids are getting a great education, it will also create new local jobs.”
Education Minister James Merlino said the state government was delivering more than 1400 school upgrades across Victoria.
“This is an investment in our kids and their future because every child, no matter where they go to school, deserves access to state-of-the-art facilities,” he said.
“Schools are the heart of our communities so it makes sense that we are investing in upgrades to support local jobs to drive our economic recovery. “
