Ecotherapy park set to grow

Design planning for stage two of the Romsey Ecotherapy park is underway and construction is expected to begin next year.

Stage two of the project will deliver a sensory therapeutic space and an arts and culture open space for people of all ages and abilities.

Romsey Ecotherapy Park Inc president Raelene Mottram said the development of the park was entering an exciting new phase.

“We are extremely excited to be entering this new phase of development of the park, creating a place for events as well as a place of wellbeing in what will be a beautiful setting,” she said.

“As the shire looks to recover from the pandemic, this new area of the park, which is ideal for rest and reflection, is sure to be a drawcard for visitors and local residents alike.”

The park is located on the corner of Main and Palmer streets and is being developed in two stages.

Romsey Ecotherapy Park Inc and Macedon Ranges council conducted a community consultation phase in 2017 to develop a concept for the park.

Stage one of the park, which includes an active nature space, landscaped areas, seating, paths, a flying fox, nature-based play elements and a climbing forest has been completed.

The council’s assets and operations director Shane Walden encouraged people to visit the park to see what has been achieved.

“This park is a fine example of how the council and the community can work effectively together to realise a long-held vision and deliver a truly unique space for everyone to enjoy,” he said.

Stage two of the park is jointly funded by the state government through Regional Development Victoria ($718,000), Macedon Ranges council ($702,000) and the Romsey and Lancefield branches of the Bendigo Bank ($80,000).

The Romsey Ecotherapy Park is expected to completed in May 2022.
