A Kyneton bakery has proven to be the best in the pie business for the third year in a row.
Country Cob Bakery’s pepper steak pie was awarded Australia’s Best Pie at the Baking Association of Australia’s Best Pie and Pastie Competition last month.
Ryan Khun, who co-owns the bakery with his brother Chan, said he was proud of his team’s success.
“We are very happy and we are over the moon because this is our third time winning,” Ryan said.
The bakery also took out the top prize in the country’s best plain beef pie, best gourmet pie, best flavoured beef pie and best vegetarian pie categories, and was awarded 19 gold medals and trophies.
Ryan said his team was constantly creating new pie flavours to showcase to their customers.
“We like to keep the traditional flavours but … creating new flavours is our new hobby,” he said.
“We sit down and get some ideas and we try and make it a couple of times before we let our staff taste it.
“Our production team, they are our judges.”
Ryan and Chan recently set up an online store to help the business stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Things have slown down a lot, not many people can visit Kyneton anymore,”Ryan said.
“But we started the online store about two weeks ago and it’s received quite a good response from customers.
