Macedon Ranges council is bringing the region’s nature to its residents through a new podcast.

The council has launched the Macedon Ranges Nature Pod podcast, to help raise the profile of the animals and plants within the naturally biodiverse shire.

The monthly podcast series will help listeners identify frog calls and common day and night backyard birds through audio clues and fact sheets that can be downloaded.

The council’s planning and environment director Angela Hughes said development of the podcast was fast-tracked because most events in the council’s environmental program were cancelled due to COVID-19.

“Our environmental program activities are often sold out so we know there is an interest from the local community,” she said.

“With tight pandemic restrictions in place, we wanted to develop content that residents can enjoy from their own homes.

“The Macedon Ranges is a biodiversity hotspot and your backyard is no exception.

“I encourage you to check out this fantastic environmental education podcast that can help us all conserve biodiversity in the region.”
