Lead-foot drivers were stopped in their tracks across the Macedon Ranges during a four-day police operation.
Police were out in full force on Victorian roads as part of the statewide Operation Regal during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
In the Macedon Ranges, police intercepted 85 drivers, including 70 speeding motorists, three drug drivers and four motorists driving unregistered vehicles.
Police also impounded two cars, nabbed one disqualified and drunk driver and caught four unregistered vehicles and drivers disobeying signs and signals.
Road Policing Command Assistant Commissioner Libby Murphy said drivers needed to take extra care on the road and drive to the conditions and their experiences if travelling on the roads in the cooler months.
“Even though we are heading into the cooler weather, people are keen to get a couple more drives in as the coronavirus restrictions ease,” she said.
“I urge that people drive to the conditions, as particularly in these cooler temperatures there is a risk that roads will be wet, visibility is poorer and in regional locations black ice may be on the road.”
Across Hume, 39 drivers were caught by police over the four-day operation.
Eighteen drivers were caught speeding, four disqualified motorists were nabbed, six drivers were caught disobeying signs and signals and three individuals were caught driving while using their mobile phone.
Operation Regal ran from Friday, June 5 to Monday, June 8.
