Winemaking couple Chris Dilworth and Loique Allain are savouring the sweet taste of success.
The pair behind Macedon Ranges winemaking business Dilworth & Allain took home the awards for Young Gun of Wine and Best New Act at the Young Gun of Wine Awards for their chardonnay and pinot noir.
Mr Dilworth it was an honour to have their hard work and creativity acknowledged.
“We are overwhelmed [and] we are so happy,” he said.
“We feel ecstatic and so excited. We are really looking forward to what the future holds.”
The duo entered two wines into the competition, where they were judged on packaging and taste.
Mr Dilworth said they had only been selling wines under Dilworth & Allain since 2017.
“We purchase from people who grow grapes. We don’t own our own vineyard,” he said.
“We have travelled and worked in many different regions and places but our label only commenced in 2017.
“We don’t release our wines for 15 or 16 months so we’ve only really been selling wine for two years so we are relatively new and young.”
The couple said there were “so many secrets” behind perfecting a bottle of wine. But having the right ingredients grown in the right place was the first step in achieving an award-winning wine.
“That’s why we love it here in the Macedon Ranges because that’s what is happening in this region,” Ms Allain said.
“It’s already been established for quite a period of time that people have been growing the right variety here and that’s why this region is so good.”
