Telstra has begun the rollout of the 5G network across Kyneton.

Telstra acting regional general manager Marcus Swinburne said Kyneton was among the first 47 towns and cities to have the 5G network switched on.

“This is a game-changer for locals and businesses in Kyneton and will provide Telstra customers using 5G devices with higher speeds, lower latency and greater capacity, especially in peak times when the network can be at its busiest,” he said.

“There will also be flow-on benefits to our 4G users with upgrades to our mobile network in Kyneton, improving capacity for all our mobile customers.”

Kyneton joins Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Hamilton, Horsham, Mildura, Swan Hill, Wallan and Warrnambool as the regional Victorian towns where the 5G rollout has started.

To use the 5G network, individuals will need a 5G enabled phone, 5G coverage and a 5G mobile plan.

If residents move to an area where 5G has not been rolled out, their phone will revert to the next “fastest” technology.
