Finals race on in Johnstone Shield

The fight for finals spots in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association Johnstone Shield will go down to the final two rounds.

Just 14 points separate the top six teams, with just one loss possibly meaning season over for the finals contenders.

East Sunbury has opened a slight gap at the top of the table with a win in the top of the table clash against Gisborne.

The Thunder made 131 and were bowled out with two balls remaining in its overs. Shannon McDorman was the pick of the batters, making 29.

The Dragons got nowhere near the total, bowled out for 76.

Lachlan Wilkins took three wickets, as the Thunder shared the wickets around. Rupertswood remains in fourth spot after a big win against Sunbury United. Rupo made 5-209 off its overs, with Paul McGarry top scoring with 58 at the top of the order.

The Sharks bowlers did a good job and were able to restrict United to 9-129.

Rupo skipper Andrew Pizaro continued his good season, taking four wickets.

Rupo sits in fifth spot, but just three points behind second. Sunbury Kangaroos, who are 1.24 points behind Rupo, made easy work of Macedon.

The Cats were bowled out for 96 with Jas King taking 4-11 for the Kangaroos.

The Kangaroos got the runs with more than 10 overs remaining, finishing 4-101.

In the other match, Wallan and Bacchus Marsh had a draw.
