A group of ladies has been knitting up a storm, creating pouches for animals left injured and orphaned in the horrific bushfires.
In a week, 30 women came together and formed a not-for-profit organisation known as Ranges Rescue.
Group co-founder Kate Nabarro said the idea to form the group came from a love of knitting and care.
“It all started with my mother and our friend who are avid knitters,” she said.
“We heard about much needed pouches to be knitted, so I started one and I thought I could make more.
“I reached out to my network and got all sorts of donations.”
Since the group’s establishment earlier this month, they have created about 400 pouches and nests for possums, joeys and birds. Once complete, the handmade pouches are delivered to animal carers in Wangaratta.
“I am extremely humble by the people trying to help us. Crafters love to craft for a good cause.”
