Safer roads ahead for motorists

Macedon Ranges motorists can look forward to safer roads.

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas said work is underway to build two roundabouts, new road safety barriers and implement an overtaking lane between Romsey and Monegeetta.

A roundabout will be built at Barry and Main streets to improve safety and traffic flow at the busy intersection in Romsey.

Construction of roundabout at Melbourne-Lancefield Road and Gisborne-Kilmore Road in Monegeetta
is also underway.

A northbound overtaking lane and new safety barriers are also being added to Melbourne-Lancefield Road.

The barriers will be installed centerline and on the roadside in high risk locations.

Ms Thomas said the upgrades would go a long way in improving road safety.

“We’ve listened to the community and we are making sure these high-risk intersections are much safer by building two new roundabouts – which are proven to drastically reduce the risk of crashes,” she said.

“We’re also installing new barriers and an overtaking lane on Melbourne-Lancefield Road to help give drivers a safer journey on this key route.”

The Barry Street roundabout is expected to be completed by June, while works on Melbourne-Lancefield Road are expected be completed mid to late 2020.
