Club serves up an ace

The South Gisborne Tennis Club got into the swing of things last week at its annual all-abilities tennis challenge.

About 45 people from Macedon Ranges Specialist School and disability service and support organisation Distinctive Options tried their hand at tennis in a series of mini challenges.

The tennis club’s all-abilities co-ordinator Gail Scott said the challenge was the club’s way of celebrating International Day of People with Disability on December 3.

She said the all-abilities tennis challenge was a fantastic day for all.

“They did an activity to begin with to get their heart rate up with no racket,” she said.

“We then put them all in different teams and they did challenges with the coaches. It was brilliant.”

The tennis club provides an all-ability tennis program twice a week for people with disabilities.

Ms Scott said the program and annual challenge was a great way for people with disabilities to get outdoors.

“Because we are wheelchair accessible, we offer our facilities to everyone,” she said.

“We encourage everyone to come to our club and to our social functions.”

The all-ability tennis program is on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10am-2pm.
