Celebrating our history on film

Take a step back in time at the Kyneton Town Hall.

Next month, a series of vintage films will be screened at the hall to celebrate its 90th year and highlight its beginnings as a movie theatre in 1929, and its civic and community significance.

Throughout the month, classic movies, news reels and local content from the 1930s to the 1970s will be played on the big screen for audiences to reminisce, or enjoy for the first time.

The films will portray social, economic and cultural events that mark each decade.

The screenings will begin on Tuesday, December 10 with 42nd Street highlighting the 1930’s and The Letter showcasing the 1940s. On Wednesday, December 11, classics including Pat and Mike and The Hustler will represent the 1960-70, while on Thursday, December 12, Sunday Too Far Away will highlight the 1970s.

There will also be a special screening of Australian TV show Homicide (The Kooranda
Killing) to pay tribute to the late Anne Phelan who was a prominent Australian actress and long-time Romsey resident.

Session times on all three days are 10.30am and 2pm. Running times for each film are about one hour.
