Support for veterans’ legacy

Macedon Ranges associations supporting past and present veterans have received a funding boost.

The Woodend RSL sub-branch has received $9000 in state government grants to install solar panels, while a further $9500 will go towards the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross for the annual Anzac Day service.

The Macedon Ranges Group of Bendigo Legacy – an organisation which provides social outings and assistance to war widows in its care – has received $5000 to pay the heating bills for disadvantaged widows.

The Lancefield Mechanics Institute received $7025 to preserve the World War I honour boards, which will be remounted and installed in the main foyer of the hall.

Eighty-four projects across Victoria will share in $1.4 million as part of the funding, to ensure memorials are preserved, veterans are commemorated in services and education and training programs are provided to veterans to remain engaged in the community.

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas welcomed the funding.

“This funding is wonderful recognition of the work these Macedon Ranges associations do to ensure we
remember all those who have served,” she said.

Veterans Minister Robin Scott said it was important to protect the legacy of veterans for future generations.
