Paws, park and fur fun

Dog lovers and their pooches can take a stroll through the Gisborne Botanical Gardens at this weekend’s Paws in the Park event.

Organiser Kalinda McIntyre said the day has grown each year since its establishment in 2006.

“The initial reasoning in setting the event up was to help promote and celebrate the human-animal bond within the Macedon Ranges and also to help promote and raise funds for the various not-for-profit organisations within the shire,” she said.

“Over the past 14 years, the event has been organised by the Gisborne Veterinary Clinic’s staff, with many local businesses donating either their time or products for various aspects of the walk.”

This year, funds raised from the event will go towards the Macedon Ranges Wildlife Network and Parklands Mobile Farm Animals.

“Each of these foundations will have a stall at the event,” Ms McIntyre said. “The ultimate goal … is to grow the day to incorporate many different aspects of the human-animal bond, create a platform for promoting best animal care and to help promote awareness of the plight of wildlife surrounding our communities.”

The Paws in the Park event kicks off at 40 Robertson Street, Gisborne on Sunday, October 27.

Registration begins at 10am. Cost $10 per person or $25 for a family.
