Gardens ready to shine

Spring is in the air at the Gardens of Tieve Tara.

Located in Mount Macedon, the garden will reopen this Sunday to show off its array of perfect pinks and glorious greens.

Head gardener David Johnston-Bailey said spring was the best time to take a stroll through the 7.5 acre garden.

“The most colourful time to come would probably be the first couple of weeks in November when the wisterias are out and the dogwoods are out,” he said.

“The most colours in the plants are during the spring with the new leaves and the new growth. The autumn time is very popular with the Chinese because of the reds and the autumn tones.”

During the winter months, Mr Johnston-Bailey prepares the garden to get it in ship-shape.

“We try and do our maintenance during winter and any major works we want done,” he said. “We’ve been doing a lot of pruning this year and aerating the lawns.”

The Gardens of Tieve Tara is at 751 Mount Macedon Road, Mount Macedon and reopens on Sunday, September 1.

The garden is open between 10am-4pm weekdays and 10.30am-5pm public holidays and weekends.
