Cash flows for riverwalk work

Kyneton’s Campaspe Riverwalk upgrade has been allocated $300,000.

The funding has been made through Healthy Heart of Victoria, an initiative to improve health outcomes for central Victoria communities.

Macedon Ranges mayor Janet Pearce welcomed the money’s allocation.

“The funding will be used to extend the shared footpath, to connect the pathway to new outdoor fitness equipment and to plan for and deliver facilities that attract more people to use and enjoy the Campaspe Riverwalk,” she said.

The next stage of the footpath upgrades along the riverwalk is due for completion by June next year following community consultation.

A kilometre-long gravel path was last year upgraded to a 2.5 metre-wide concrete path along the river from Piper Street to the end of Wedge Street.

The design, planning and delivery of facilities and programs to promote new exercise equipment will occur in the coming six months.

“We will design the supportive facilities and resources, together with community members, so that people of all ages and abilities can have a say in what would make the riverwalk and exercise equipment more safe, inclusive and accessible,” Cr Pearce said. “Activity is so important for all aspects of our physical health and also for our mental health. We hope to encourage more people in the community to become active and healthy.”

Residents who would like to be involved in the design process and learn more about the project are being encouraged to share their ideas by filling out an online form at mrsc.vic.gov.au/yoursay or by emailing Jodie Turner at jturner@mrsc.vic.gov.au.

Submissions must be made before Monday, September 30.
