Burras beat Riddell

Riddell was outplayed by Diggers Rest in the Riddell District Netball League on Saturday.

With both sides sitting in the lower part of the top six, every win is vital to ensure they play finals, with other teams hot on their heels.

It was an even first half, before the Burras opened up a six goal lead in the second quarter.

They were able to build on it throughout the second half, taking control of the game, winning 54-34.

Kathy Dicker scored 39 goals for the Burras, while Tara O’Grady shot 17 for the Bombers.

Young Bomber defender Kirby Elliott was named their best.

The Burras and Bombers remain fifth and sixth respectively.

The Bombers, who are missing some of their starters, have a tough run home.

Star defender Lauren Close is out for the rest of the season, while her sister Ellen Close is overseas.

Lauren Close, the Bombers coach, is expecting her first child later this year, the club recently announced.

In other results, Melton Centrals kept the pressure on the top six with a win against Woodend-Hesket.

It was a poor start for the Hawks, who were missing several players including goaler Tara Burnip. They trailed by nine goals at quarter time and were never able to get into the game, losing 50-35.

Both sides sit two games outside the top six, equal on 18 points. Ladder leaders Rupertswood beat Broadford, 43-29.

Wallan had no troubles at all against Rockbank, winning 51-29.

Macedon, Romsey and Lancefield had
the bye.
