A new Riddells Creek fire station is a step closer.
The state government earlier this month announced $3 million funding to provide the Riddells Creek CFA with a new home.
The funds were allocated in the 2019-20 state budget and will go towards purchasing new land and building a new station.
The new station will include a bay motor room, support and meeting areas, offices, a kitchen, training yard and communications infrastructure.
Riddells Creek CFA captain Tom Morley welcomed the funding.
“Our members are delighted … It’s exciting news,” he said. “Our fire station was built in 1984 and the times have definitely changed since then.
“A more modern facility means improved safety, the ability to accommodate new trucks and equipment, a dedicated training space to maintain our professional skills, as well as the opportunity to share spaces with other groups in the community.
“This will allow us to serve our community better as well as encourage member sustainability.”
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas said it was important to provide CFA volunteers with the right infrastructure and services.
“Our CFA volunteers play a vital role in the community, especially in Riddells Creek where the brigade is being kept busy as the area continues to grow,” she said.
“The brigade has outgrown the current facility … and our investment will provide a fit-for-purpose base.”
The Riddells Creek brigade is working with the CFA to determine a suitable site for the new station, which is expected to be completed by 2021.
