Troop gets new digs

The 1st Riddells Creek Scout hall is ready to re-open to the public after five months of renovations.

Scout support committee group secretary Guinevere Gilbert said the hall renovations were a long time coming.

“The hall has had quite a history,” she said.

“It didn’t have amazing facilities.

“The Macedon Ranges council has funded the restoration of the hall and has given it a new kitchen, a new toilet, disabled facilities and access and a new floor.

“It was a big job – there was a lot of work done.”

Ms Gilbert said Scouts – young and old, were looking forward to seeing and using their new facilities.

“We have all ages from Joeys, all the way to Scouts and they all are able to use a decent space to do troop meetings,” she said.

“They are also able to use the kitchen facilities which we didn’t have before.”

Ms Gilbert estimated the cost of the renovations were between $70,000-$100,000.

The newly renovated hall will officially open on May 27 at 7pm at 26 Sutherlands Road, Riddells Creek.

Macedon Ranges mayor Janet Pearce and Scouts Victoria chief commissioner Brendan Watson will be at the opening.

“The evening will be an opportunity to showcase the new facilities to the community and show our appreciation to the council,” Ms Gilbert said.
