Gisborne duo Maddy Stewart and Clare Vearing have been named in the Bendigo Netball League open representative team for this year.
The team will represent the league at the WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships against the Outer East Netball team next week, and then at the association champs finals in June.
The league has named a team of 10 players, all who have plenty of experience. All 10 players are from teams that currently sit in the BNL top four.
Stewart, who won last year’s Betty Thompson Medal, has long been part of the BNL representative program.
Vearing, in her second season at the Bulldogs, will represent the league for the first time.
Kangaroo Flat coach Jayden Cowling has been named coach of the side.
Cowling said it was exciting to select a team of high caliber players. All of the squad are either in Victorian Netball League teams or have been in the past.
“We currently have such a strong netball league, including numerous players playing at VNL level, and to have access to these players to represent the Bendigo team is a huge step towards interleague success,” Cowling said.
“I cannot wait for these girls to be given the opportunity to play alongside each other in our bid to have a successful interleague and Association Championships campaign”.
