Hip hip hooray to the Sunbury Blue Light Disco.
It’s the disco’s 40th birthday on Saturday and children are invited to the party.
Sunbury Sergeant Kimberley Hunting said the event, hosted by local police, was a chance for children to have a safe and fun night out.
“It started with a group of volunteers through Victoria Police,” she said.
“It is to engage with the youth and to also show them that police are approachable and we can also have fun and give them somewhere that is a safe environment to let their hair down, have a dance and learn some responsibility.”
Sergeant Hunting said disco-goers are encouraged to break a move on the dancefloor.
“We’ve got a massive cake and we’re going to sing happy birthday,” she said.
“It’s a party, and it’s our big 40th so come as you would to any party.”
The money raised from the tickets will go towards a local community group.
“It’s a $7 entry and part of it is the insurance for the children and the hall hire, and the rest of the money goes back in to the community,” Sergeant Hunting said.
“We ask local community groups to supply us with our community group volunteers… this year it’s the Sunbury Scouts.”
The next Sunbury Blue Light Disco is on February 22, 6-8pm at the Sunbury Memorial Hall.
Tickets can be purchased on the night.
