Tough battle for Riddell

Riddell is facing its toughest challenge so far this season.

It will need to bat well against St Anthonys to remain undefeated in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association Johnstone Shield District Firsts competition.

St Anthonys made 268 off 60 overs on the back of a century to Paul Scott and John Jensen’s 81.

The Bombers took late wickets to restrict the Saints, who were looking on track to score 350-plus.

The Bombers took their time late on day one, facing nine overs before stumps and will resume at 0-12.

Rupertswood also had a good day with the bat against East Sunbury, making 252.

Alex Bond top scored with 55, while the lower order pair of John Lane (30 not out) and Max Howell (35) pushed the score well past 200.

Jack Dillon was the pick of the bowlers for the Thunder with three wickets.

Ashfield will need early wickets against Bacchus Marsh, after a tough day one.

Ashfield was bowled out for just 127, with Jas King top scoring with 34.

The Bulls will resume at 3-51.

In other matches, Eynesbury Eagles made 175 against Gisborne.

The Eagles got off to the perfect start with the ball, having the Dragons 1-3 at stumps.

In the Jensen Shield, it was a day of high scores with Blackwood, Lancefield and Macedon posting scores of 200 plus. Kyneton was bowled out for 199.

The star of the day in that competition was Macedon’s Chris Axton, who finished 120 not out against Sunbury United.

Lancefield’s Jarryd McGill finished five short of his century against St Anthonys.
