Schools across the Macedon Ranges are set to benefit from much-needed maintenance work.
More than 25 schools across the area will share in more than $218,000 as part of the
state government’s $20 million of maintenance funding to help keep schools safe and fire-ready for the upcoming bushfire season.
Darraweit Guim Primary School will also receive $90,000 to repair termite-damaged flooring in the original school building.
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas said the funding was good news for local schools ahead of the summer months.
“This is welcome news for one of the Macedon Ranges’ smallest schools,” she said. “This $90,000 grant will provide a new floor for the 150-year-old school building.
“We live in one of the most bushfire-prone areas in the world, so it’s vital we take all precautions available to us to protect our community against the threat of fire.”
The schools, including kindergartens and childcare facilities, are those listed on the Department of Education and Training’s 2018 Bushfire At-Risk Register.
Inclusion on the register means the facilities close on days declared Code Red in their Bureau of Meteorology districts.
The Victorian School Building Authority will start working with the schools to determine the scope of their maintenance needs.
