Kyneton FC sacks Mark Adamson

Despite being on the verge of a rare finals appearance, Kyneton Football Club has sacked coach Mark Adamson.

A statement on the Tigers website on Tuesday night, club president Rob Waters said the Bendigo Football League had ended its association with Mark “after he failed to meet the standards required to be the leader of the Tigers.”

“It’s a disappointing end for all concerned,” Waters continued on to say.

Waters told Star Weekly that Adamson had missed a training session which forced the club to act.

“It was just not the right standard to be setting to the players.

“We just thought we had to act.

“He is disappointed and so are we.”

Waters said it was already decided that Adamson wouldn’t be coaching the side in 2016 due to work commitments.

Tigers premiership player and current player Luke Beattie  would coach the side for the rest of the season.

“Luke was one of the people we were looking at to take on the coaching role.

“He is probably in his last year of playing. He was an assistant at Sunbury [Lions] in a premiership side and coached Daylesford to a premiership.”

The Tigers currently sit fifth on the ladder, one game clear of Castlemaine and Gisborne.

“The players were disappointed about the training incident and they supported our decision,” Waters said.

“I don’t think it will disrupt the players and how we are playing. I’m hoping it will go the other way.”

Injured captain Michael Rainey will step into the coaches box to help Beattie and the other assistant coaches.

Waters said Adamson who had been coach since the club re-entered the competition in 2014 would always be welcome back at the club.

“His tireless work in getting a senior side back on the park will never be forgotten.

“His efforts to recruit the 2014 and 2015 teams can’t be underestimated.

“He played a very large part in re-invigorating the club.  We wish him all the best for the future.”
