Kindergartens win in cash splash

Macedon Ranges and Diggers Rest families will benefit from a funding boost for early learning centres.

Woodend Kindergarten will receive $152,000 on top of its recently successful bid for $200,000 to upgrade its outdoor playspace through the Pick My Project initiative.

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas visited the kindergarten last week for the announcement.

“Now some of our littlest residents will have the outdoor learning spaces they deserve at Woodend kinder,” Ms Thomas said.

Early Childhood Education Minister Jenny Mikakos said the Woodend Kindergarten upgrades were among more than 50 projects being funded as part of the government’s election commitment to early learning and kinder reforms.

“We’ve promised to roll-out three-year-old kinder and we’re backing it up, undertaking the biggest early education build our state has ever seen,” she said.

“We will make sure local kids get the opportunities they deserve.”

Diggers Rest kindergarten is in for a
$1.3 million upgrade, with the state contributing $350,000 and $979,000 coming from Melton council.

Mayor Bob Turner lauded the renovations.

“The Diggers Rest Preschool will be extended in order to meet the service needs of children, families, young people, seniors and culturally and linguistically diverse community members in Diggers Rest,” Cr Turner said.
