Glenwood Stud: 1404 Three Chain Road, Cobaw, 3442

Right now “Glenwood” is all about horses – and very well set up to remain that way. But it’s also a fab lifestyle property, with about 28.3 hectares of God’s own country on which to work and play – while soaking up sweeping vistas of the Cobaws.

Built to a high standard 36 years ago, the classic homestead hasn’t changed much over the years – except for a smart new bathroom – so has the look typical of its era. With such great bones, the house would respond beautifully to an update and/or an extension but is absolutely fine as is.

Beyond a circular driveway, terraced gardens and wraparound verandah, entry is directly into the slate-tiled kitchen-meals space. A grey-carpeted study is also off the short entry way.

The kitchen, with new dishwasher and 900mm cooker, has pine cabinetry topped with rust-toned laminate, a pantry behind leadlight double bifolds, and a garden window behind the sink. The views from here have sweeping lawns, camellias, rhodies and silver birches in the foreground, while the Cobaw Ranges fill the rest of the frame. Very nice.

At one end of the kitchen, the meals zone opens to a verandah and, at the other end, a multi-paned door ushers in the spacious, grey-carpeted lounge-dining room with ceiling fan, split-system and Coonara wood heater. It also opens to a verandah.

Along a carpeted hallway are the new bathroom in pearl-grey and white, a two-way toilet and refreshed laundry and two fitted bedrooms. The main bedroom, off the lounge room, has a walk-in robe and an en suite with timber vanity.

Outstanding equine infrastructure includes a brick-floored American-style barn with five stables with American ash gates, a feed room, a long holding area and a six-metre breezeway able to easily accommodate horse floats. There’s also a kitchen and a mezzanine storage area which could be an office.

As well, there’s post-and-rail fencing, five dams, water tanks with about 76,000-litre capacity, another 7,500-litre tank with pump for gardens, a four-bay machinery shed, three shelters and stockyards.

The property, with Hesket Primary School and Newham General Store 10 minutes away, has claret and golden ashes, evergreen alders, liquidambar, smoke bush trees and forest pansy trees attracting abundant birdlife.
