Sunbury Jets’ Josie Stockill has been named as the final member of the Melbourne Boomers squad for the upcoming Women’s National Basketball League season.
Stockill, who has been part of the Jets’ side the last two seasons, was named as development player with the Boomers last week.
Stockill said she was excited to take the next step in her career.
“I am proud and very excited for this opportunity to be part of the Boomers family,” she said on the club’s website.
“I have been coached by Guy [Molloy] with the New Zealand Tall Ferns team before, and I look forward to further developing my game under his leadership.
“This will be an exciting season for the club and I am looking forward to contributing to our success as a team.”
Stockill is averaging 15 points and six rebounds a game this season for the Jets this season.
She scored 10 points in game one of the Jets’ Big V state championship grand final series against the Southern Peninsula Sharks.
Jets coach Kennedy Kereama said it was credit to Stockill and the work she had put in.
“It’s credit to her and the hard work,” he said.
“Naturally as her club coach and former national coach, I’m really proud of her and she’s got a great opportunity at a great club.”
It’s a third straight year the Boomers have signed a Jets player.
Jess Bygate, who had previously played with Adelaide Lightning, signed with the Boomers having been part of the Jets division 1 side in 2016.
Last year, Courtney Duever signed with the Boomers during the Jets run to the state championship title.
She would later win the Big V state championship most valuable player award.
A knee injury saw her 2017-2018 WNBL come to an end prematurely.
Kereama said it was an exciting position to be in to showcase some exceptional talent.
“It’s largely down to the amount of work these players are putting in to get noticed.
“It’s also hopefully a part of what we are going at the club to develop our players.”
