Sunbury plea for more buses

Sunbury residents are calling for the town’s bus services to be extended to the Sunbury Fields and Rosenthal estates.

The Sunbury Residents Association recently wrote to Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan and Hume mayor Geoff Porter calling for a review of local bus services.

In the letter, association president Peter Free said residents were keen to see buses travel along Elizabeth Drive into the Sunbury Fields and Rosenthal estates, which include more than 1700 houses.

“The recent completion of Elizabeth Drive, connecting to Vineyard Road in the southern extent, and the extension of Elizabeth Drive, connecting to Racecourse Road in the northern extent, provides an opportunity to reconsider the bus routes to better service these new residential communities,” he said.

Speaking to

Star Weekly, Mr Free said people living in Sunbury Fields and Rosenthal did not have access to public transport.

“Sunbury Fields is the main area of concern,” he said.

“People who work in Melbourne and take the train are having to drive to the station at the moment.

“Maybe people would start using buses more if the routes were improved.”

A spokesman for Transport for Victoria said bus networks were regularly reviewed, including those in growth areas and new developments, to identify opportunities to improve existing bus services or plan new ones.

“These reviews consider several factors, including sustainability of the road network, connecting existing and new communities to key destinations, and to other public transport services,” the spokesman said.
