Lancefield could be at risk of “losing its charm” unless proper planning guidelines are in place, according to the Macedon Ranges council.
It is calling on residents to have their say on an amendment to a council proposal to apply planning controls over three large residentially zoned areas located to the east, north and northwest of Lancefield’s town centre.
The council’s planning and environment director Angela Hughes said the purpose of the amendment was to provide clearer guidance for future subdivisions and development in the nominated residential areas and ensure any further development is co-ordinated, sustainable and respectful of the town’s character.
“Lancefield is a picturesque town, that locals and visitors alike enjoy, but without appropriate planning controls in place, to guide co-ordinated development – the town is in danger of losing its charm,” Ms Hughes said.
“The proposed amendment also helps inform any infrastructure, road design and servicing works as a result of development, bringing a level of cohesion into the development process.”
Feedback is welcomed until August 13. There will be a community drop-in session on July 17 and 24 from 3-8pm at Lancefield Neighbourhood House.
