Kyneton continues to improve in the Central Victoria Football League’s women’s competition.

While the wins haven’t been flowing for the Tigers, they have been competitive in most of their games and unlucky not to have come away with the points more often.

Tigers’ women’s football director and player Natalie Korinfsky said it had been a fantastic season despite the results.

They had their first win in the previous round against North Bendigo.

On Sunday, they lost to Kangaroo Flat, 8.14 (62)-2.1 (13).

Kangaroo Flat started well and was able to do enough to hold on, as the Tigers fought back in the second half.

Skye Sinclair was named the Tigers’ best, while Jane Rolls, Haylee Mangan and Emily Gibson, in her first game, were all key contributors.

Speaking before the weekend’s match, Korinfsky said if any team was off on any day, they could be beaten.

She said that first win was a massive confidence booster for the side.

“It’s been fantastic,” she said.

“There’s been a lot of close games the last three to four rounds. Besides Bendigo who are on top, everyone else is in reach of each other.

“Everyone is putting everything in at training and into games.

“It has been longer than expected to get the win. Everything just clicked.”

Korinfsky said a number of new players were starting to have an impact.

She said Caitlin Nash, Angela Downey and Madeline Zarb had been standouts.

“The new players are taking to footy like a duck to water,” she said.

“It’s like a cross-sport thing and they’re using the skills they’ve brought across from other sports.”

Korinfsky said they were hoping they could add a few more wins in the next few weeks. This week they face North Bendigo again.

“We trialled a few players in different positions to have a look at them and it seemed to work,” she said.

“We’ll keep pushing the girls to improve their skills and fitness and be competitive, but most of all enjoy their footy.”

In the AFL Goldfields’ women’s competition, Gisborne defeated Darley, 9.12 (66)-1.3 (9).

Natalie Dowdy and Alana Preston kicked two goals each for the Bulldogs and Brianna Woodburn was named the Bulldogs’ best.

In the Essendon District Football League Women’s competition, the Sunbury Kangaroos defeated Keilor 13.6 (84)-3.1 (19).

Tara Crisp kicked four goals for the Kangaroos and Alex Quigley was named best on ground for a second straight week.
