Sunbury police play down road rage attacks

Sunbury police say road rage is not on the rise in the suburb, despite having dealt with two violent incidents in recent weeks.

On May 26, a Sunbury woman attended the police station after her and a friend were allegedly attacked by a truck driver.

And footage has emerged of a man terrorising a Sunbury family outside the station a week earlier, on May 19. The footage shows a man jumping on the roof and opening the door of a car with a mother and her two children inside.

Senior Constable Justin Kaminski, who stepped in to help the family, said he did not think instances of road rage were increasing in Sunbury.

He described the May 19 incident as “more of a one-off thing”.

“It could have happened anywhere,” he told Star Weekly.

The Senior Constable has advised anyone involved in a road rage incident to stay in their vehicle and get as many details about the offender as possible.

“Make a note of the registration and the vehicle and notify police,” he said.

Senior Constable Kaminski said the family was “quite distraught” when police arrived.

A man was arrested and has since been charged and bailed.

On May 26, two women reported to Sunbury police after their car was sideswiped and rammed by a truck on the Tullamarine Freeway about 1.10pm.

The women followed the truck and were allegedly assaulted while trying to get the truck’s number plate.

They fled to Sunbury.
