Sacred Heart College’s hospitality centre could have been mistaken for the set of Junior MasterChef last month.

The secondary school hosted a Junior Chef competition for six catholic primary schools, comprising 48 grade 4 competitors.

The cook-off began with two days of round one, where the pupils were mentored by senior hospitality students as they prepared a pancake stack with mixed berry sauce.

From there, four teams were selected to go through to the finals.

The following week the finalists presented fettuccine pasta and napoletana sauce to the panel of judges – chef Tim Foster from Source Dining, Kyneton; chef Damian Sandercock from Piper St Food Co, Kyneton; and the Sacred Heart captains – in front of parents and staff.

A team from Holy Cross Catholic Primary School took out the title, earning a $250 voucher to buy plants for their school’s kitchen garden.
