Rupertswood gets one back on Macedon

Rupertswood has finally come away with the win against Macedon on Anzac Day in the Riddell District Football League.

The Sharks had lost the previous two Anzac Day matches between the two sides, and lost all four matches between them last season, including the grand final.

This time round, it was all the Sharks.

Having focused on a strong start in their recent match against Romsey on Saturday, the Sharks again started well on Anzac Day.

The Sharks kicked five goals to one in the opening term, to lead by 28 points at the first break and extended it to 36 at the main break.

It was an even third quarter, before the Sharks jumped away again to seal the 16.12 (108)-8.9 (57).

Brent Swallow and Todd Podolczak kicked three goals apiece for the Sharks, while Chris Kilmartin continued his good form for the Cats with four goals.

Swallow was awarded the Grumont Medal for the most courageous player.

John Barnard was named the Sharks best, handling most of the ruck workload in the absence of Dean Putt.

Kilmartin was named the Cats best.

Meanwhile in the A-grade netball, it was Macedon that came away with the win.

The Cats had to overcome a slow against the Sharks, as they trailed by four goals at the main break.

The Cats made some changes at half time, including moving Amy Carroll into goals, and that seemed to work with the side taking the lead in the third quarter.

The Cats extended the lead in the final quarter, to win 46-40.

Chloe Wilson shot 30 goals from 35 attempts for the Cats, while Abby Gilmore scored 21 goals for the Sharks.

Cats defender Janelle Birch was awarded the McDougall Medal for the most courageous player on court.
