A Gisborne primary school music teacher is seeking support to help the school expand its music horizons.
Gisborne Montessori’s music teacher Charlotte Roberts is asking the community for both funding and labour to help build “inclusive instruments” and repair the school’s existing instruments.
Ms Roberts said a recent visit to the school by music teacher Jon Madin and his unique, inclusive instruments had inspired pupils.
“They were so full of joy, play and bliss, I knew that it was important to get them their own set as soon as possible to keep building that sense of wonder and hope for a musical and playful future.”
Ms Roberts wants to build marimbas, echo-cellos and ding boxes, which allow young children without musical skills to be part of a group musical experience.
She said funding and time would also be dedicated toward repairing the popular instruments already owned by the school.
