Sunbury mum Taylor Garner raises funds for foster care

Taylor Garner will plunge out of her comfort zone this weekend as she abseils down a 27-floor building to raise funds for foster care programs.

The Sunbury mother has been inspired to help Anglicare Victoria’s foster care programs after growing up alongside foster care children.

“My parents have been foster carers for Anglicare for years,” Ms Garner said. “And out of that I have gained a beautiful younger brother.”

Ms Garner’s parents permanently care for a six-year-old boy who they received through foster care about five years ago.

“I have watched dozens of children come through my parents’ home who have suffered unimaginable things no child deserves to ever go through,” she said.

“I have also watched my younger brother previously suffer and continue to battle with trauma he never asked for and does not deserve.”

Ms Garner’s family continues to foster babies and young children.

She is taking part in Anglicare Victoria’s Altitude Shift fundraiser to encourage more of the community to help foster children.

“There needs to be more help out there for these children who don’t deserve to be bought into the situations they’re in.”

Ms Garner said she also wanted to inspire her own son.

“I want my son to be able to watch me do this and know that he can do anything,” she said.

“He doesn’t have to be afraid because we will always keep him safe.”
