One goal enough for defeat for Gisborne

Gisborne’s winning start to the FFV state league 5 west season has come to an end.

Facing Keilor Wolves, which were also undefeated, it was always going to be a challenge for Gisborne.

At stages it didn’t look like the teams would get out onto the pitch with the wet and windy weather, but the skies cleared and they got under way.

The Wolves scored first in the 15th minute and they held that lead at half-time.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the second half, giving the Wolves the 1-0 win.

Gisborne now has two wins and a loss and sits among a group of teams on two wins.

It faces Deakin Ducks this week.

In state league 3 north-west, Sunbury United had a hard fought 1-1 draw with Point Cook. United scored in the third minute through Jayden Mercieca and Point Cook hit back in the 34th minute.

Despite having dominated play for much of the game, United had to settle for 1-1 at half-time. Both teams had chances in the second half, but neither side could shoot a winner.

United remains undefeated after three rounds, with two wins and a draw and face Upfield this week.
